As we continue to watch the thermometers push 100 degrees, beer news upstate has continued to come fast and furious. Troy is buzzing with news of the central NY collaboration event coming up next week, the upcoming Hudson valley and Western NY brew days approaching, and lots of growth and expansion on horizon for breweries in general. There is a lot to cover so let’s start with the event we are hosting at the Ruck next Friday.
Back at the end of June, Dave and a bunch of The Ruck crew headed over to Good Nature, Ommegang, and F X Matt (Saranac) to brew up some delicious beer. The first collaboration was with Matt Whelan and the folks at Good Nature. We were very excited to brew their first Pilsner on the high efficiency system at the new facility, and it was brewed with all New York State ingredients! The following day was a New England style IPA brewed on the pilot system at F X Matt. It was hopped & dry-hopped with all Southern hemisphere hops including, Nelson Sauvin, Galaxy, and Motueka. You can expect a hazy & juicy masterpiece, it’s one you won’t want to miss.
The final Central NY collaboration brought a bunch of The Ruck crew out to Brewery Ommegang and not only did they help to brew a Brut IPA, they also got a sneak peak at the new taproom. As many of you who recently attended Belgium Comes to Cooperstown can attest to, the new space at ommegang is fantastic. Expect the Brut IPA to be dry with very little residual sweetness, and with a nice balanced and bright hop profile. All three of these collaborations will be tapped for an event on Friday, August 17th and should be available all weekend including at our Pints for Paws event taking place on the 18th. Bring your pooch and have some fresh local beer we had a hand in brewing.
Over the next few weeks, we will be brewing at Stoneyard in Brockport, Community Beer Works and Thin Man both in the Buffalo area, as well as Sloop at their new facility in Fishkill and Industrial Arts down in Garnerville. Expect to see some delicious beers(and maybe some cans?) from both the Hudson Valley and Western NY regions during Troy Craft Beer Week in September. Dust off your Bills gear, and get ready to tailgate for the first game of the season Ruck style. There will definitely be more details to follow.
In the news, Other Half purchased the old Nedloh brewing facility out in Western NY with plans open in 2019 to meet demand in New York State. Additionally, congratulations to the winners of the 2nd Annual New York State Craft Beer competition, including Peekskill, Saranac, Ommegang's, Good Nature, Community Beer Works, Brown’s, Rare Form, Wolf Hollow, Threes Brewing and all the other hardworking breweries in New York.
