Formerly Sutter’s Mill & Mining Co. and the old Troy Pharmaceuticals before that, The Ruck opened its doors in 1998. Heavy investment in our draft infrastructure began in 2004 as our owner, David Gardell’s, passion for great beer was growing along with that of our customers. An early driving force bringing us into the growing craft beer world was the installation of our Goliath tower, the 20 tap unit you see at the far end of the bar. Working to ensure the highest quality standards in draught operation and beer service, expansion work continued. In 2008 our coolers we expanded to create greater room for additional draught beer storage and to allow us to begin aging specialty beers and limited releases in house for future draught unveilings. In 2010, additional towers were added to allow for a greater selection of specialty/ high end draughts. You can see Whitey and the Browmeister at the near end of the bar. With the growth of the Real Ale Movement reaching the northeast, we added a Beer Engine in 2011. With the beer engine we are able to offer the best in cask beer from local brewers as well as those across the country. Often times these beers will feature a unique one of a kind dry hopping or flavoring. Their freshness and character cannot be beat!
In September of 2012, CraftBeer.com & The Brewers Association ranked The Ruck in their first readers poll of Great American Beer Bars. The Ruck was the only bar to represent New York State in the GABB Finals and went on to earn Second Place in the entire Northeast! In 2013, The Ruck saw another selection to the Top 10 in the Northeast.
The Ruck is a home away from home for many of us. It really seems like a second “living room” for most, a place to unwind and hang out with friends. When others are closed for the holidays, we will still be here. Open seven days a week, 365 a year, we’re open ‘til 4am. Our kitchen is open until 1am.
